A Coordinated Effort

My Get Hitched group (http://www.meetup.com/Get-Hitched-Northwest-in-Bellingham-WA/) is based on the realization that people feel most comfortable meeting face to face with actual people, not with names and photos they find on the web.  But that's not to say that the Internet has no role to play in the process. LikeBright is a web-based service, based in Seattle, which relies on referrals from friends and acquaintances. Nick Soman is the head of that group, and you can find him on Facebook. See https://secure.likebright.com/meet, www.likebright.com and https://www.facebook.com/#!/nick.soman?fref=ts.

Of course, not all people feel comfortable referring their friends to potential dates or playing the role of matchmaker. Some people may be afraid that if those relationships go bad, they will get the blame. But the mechanism exists to make that kind of thing happen, if people are willing to participate in the process.

Some people will not feel a need for LikeBright in order to do this. Plain old email, phone numbers and so forth can accomplish similar things. All it takes is leaving your comfort zone and being willing to take risks on behalf of your friends.
